Happy Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day to all my nerdlings; as you enjoy your day off, please take a moment from bbqing to reflect on the true purpose of today in remembering that all gave some and some gave all so we have the freedom to live our lives as we see fit.

Enjoy the company of your family and friends; and stay safe!

Oh, I’m afraid the bbq will be quite operational when your friends arrive.

Nerd Appreciation

As most of you know, Friday was Geek pride day; and man was there some geek love in the air! As a follow up to that I would like to carry on the love with Nerd Appreciation day! For this I was going to just put together a gallery of some great geek girls with superhero body paint; but instead let me feed your poindexter passions with some new material. (If you ask nice I’ll post the gallery anyway 😀 ) Either way know that I think you’re awesome for reading and I appreciate you!

In addition to all the wonderful creators of the content that we crave that have nabbed a spot on the wall over in my People and Likes sections; do yourself a favor and check out some other inspired opinions on the interwebs.

Being a nerd is all about being unashamedly passionate about what you LOVE! Enjoy the below gallery of me at some of my geekiest moments; hopefully it inspires you to do likewise! Stay nerdy my friends.

Arrow-dynamics, Streamlining Green Arrows Jump to TV

This week a new teaser trailer for The CW’s Arrow has been released, giving us more insight into the backstory, art direction, and (hopefully) overall style of the upcoming show. We are treated to some island shots of his origin, the first shot of one of his trick arrows, a quick action sequence of close quarters combat (which shows just how a guy with a bow and arrow can evade and take down those with guns), some humor, and the obligatory hero shots; that’s a lot to take in in just 30 seconds!

The survivalist aspect during Ollie’s island exile has been GA’s origin story since Jack Kirby; but it was really brought out and set the tone for our modern age understanding of the emerald archer In Andy Diggle & Jock’s Green Arrow Year 1. Just watching the few island shots we were privy to in this teaser it’s clear that from the beginning that the CW is trying to appeal to existing fans by at least acknowledging his comic roots story wise and stylistically.

Wednesday Warrior Review- The Guild: Fawkes (One Shot)

PNN’s inaugural Wednesday Warrior Review is dedicated to Felicia Day and all the fine folks over at The Guild. The Guild is being published by Dark Horse and with this issue has wrapped up a series of one shots each dedicated to one of the main characters as a prequel book informing their backstory prior to the first season of the web series of the same name (for more info on the series, check out Congrats Guildies).

Todays issue follows Fawkes, the leader of rival guild the Axis of Anarchy, on a bridging adventure between season 4 following his journey to his surprising state when he returns in season 5.  This issue reveals how Fawkes deals with his split from Codex (Felicia Day) and navigates the aggressive personalities of the Axis both in game and out. As usual for The Guild books, there’s a variant cover (which I always wind up buying as the var usually features in game personas and comes off way more epic, although both covers for this one were in game likenesses), and a 4 page sample can be found on Dark Horse’s website (or by clicking the covers below).

Congratulations Guildies!

Cast of “The Guild”- Felicia Day, Jeff Lewis, Robin Thorsen, Vincent Caso

Just wanted to take today to say congratulations to the cast of the guild. Their music videos combined on youtube hit 24 million views today!

For those unfamiliar, The Guild is a web series started by Felicia Day (Dr. Horrible) that follows the misadventures of her and her fellow gamers as they team up to conquer “the game” (not WoW they’re VERY careful about not using any proper names) and survive real life.  What started as a modest undertaking and passion project has since grown into it’s 5th season, being featured on msn and xbox live, and perhaps the most successful web series to date!
